If the river swallowed the land, what comes next? Would our house lift in the stream like a boat and carry us along? Would we sing, would we cry, would we hold each other as we slip far far away?
Waterline is an interdisciplinary installation exploring a world where the river keeps rising and does not stop. Situated in the Appalachian mountains, I anthropomorphize the animals, places, and plants of North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, to explore who would persist when we are all gone, over-run by forces beyond our control. The turkey vulture, the weeping willow, the homes, and the people.
In a world already being chewed through by invasive species - the kudzu, humans, garlic mustard, and lantern flys, it becomes possible to imagine a fresh start demanded by an intense flood. What would happen if we have to reassess our place in the world? What would really matter if we took a second to consider it?
